J. Augustine Toe
Before coming to the LACC, Cllr. Toe worked for the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission (JPC) as Legal Aid Officer and subsequently as National Director. He also worked for the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) as National Legal Advisor for a brief period.
During his tenure as Legal Aid Officer and as National Director of the JPC, Cllr. Toe was credited for rendering pro bono Legal services to indigent persons, Civil Society Actors and Journalists. He is a practicing Attorney, and a Member of the Supreme Court Bar as well as an active member of both the Grand Kru Bar and Liberia National Bar Association.
During the transitional period of Liberia (2003 - 2006), Cllr. Toe was a founding member of the Transitional Justice Working Groups (TJWG) and a Board Member of the Board of Directors of the National Human Rights Center - a Consortium of Human Rights and Pro-Democracy Institutions. Commissioner Toe was also instrumental in strengthening Civil Society Advocacy in Liberia. He is a crusader for the respect of Human Rights, Rule of Law, good governance, accountability and transparency.
Cllr. Toe is a Catholic and a member of several National and International Organizations including: The Liberia National Bar Association, The Noble Knights of St. John International, West African Human Rights Activists, and International Association of Legal Aid Providers. Vice Chairperson Toe holds a Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) in Political Science from the University of Liberia, a Bachelor of LAWS (LLB) from the Louis Arthur Grimes School of LAW, University of Liberia and several certificates in Human Rights and Conflict Resolutions.
