The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has Concluded a Successful Working Visit to Sierra Leone, Engaging with Key Institutions to Exchange Knowledge and Deepen Cross-Border Cooperation in the Fight Against Corruption

The LACC delegation, comprising Vice Executive Chairperson Mr. Ernest Hughes, Executive Assistant/Program Manager to the Executive Chairperson, Ms. Vivian Akoto, and the Program Manager for Education & Prevention, Mr. John Tommy, spent the week engaging with the Anti-Corruption Commission Sierra Leone and other critical stakeholders.

The visit included strategic meetings with the Chief Justice and Supreme Court Justices, the Inspector General of Police, and leading civil society organizations like the Centre for Accountability and the Rule of Law (CARL). These conversations offered insight into Sierra Leone’s approach to combating corruption through its dedicated anti-corruption court, robust whistleblower systems, public engagement strategies, and inter-agency coordination.

With Liberia working towards the establishment of its own Specialized Anti-Corruption Court, this exchange comes at a crucial time. Understanding Sierra Leone’s operational model will help inform and guide national efforts to build a similar framework that ensures swift, independent, and effective handling of corruption cases.

LACC Vice Executive Chairperson Mr. Hughes emphasized, “When we collaborate and share information across borders, we make it harder for corruption to survive. What starts in one country often doesn’t end there. Our joint vigilance is key.”

Through continued collaboration, the LACC aims to drive regional efforts that support open governance and the rule of law.
